A pen and ink drawing with watercolour from my sketchbook on a visit to Niagara on the Lake. This sweet shop selling bath and body products started its life as an instant teller, dispensing money to eager shoppers. Now the small space is filled with the aromas of mint and lavender.
One of my first attempts at a truly loose hand when applying watercolour (precipitated by the short time period between starting and dinner!). This lodge is part of an iconic “tranquil retreat” in Algonquin Park. driving around Lake of Two Rivers on the Frank MacDonald Parkway, you can’t help but notice the black, white and red cabins lining a small peninsula of land. Each cabin has a canoe and they serve mouth watering breakfast, lunch and dinner. Not to mention that the chipmunks have learned to eat peanuts out of your hand.
A friend asked me to road trip to Nelson BC in his convertible Smart Car. Of course I said yes. The drive was beautiful, with the wind in my hair and cherries from the fruit rich Osoyoos valley. Walking around that first morning, the main street was blocked off and some sort of event was going on. There was a long line, which I joined and it turned out to be for pancakes! While waiting I drew this building which I later coloured while watching the trolley wind its way along the water.
