Who me?

Hello! I’m honoured you’re here finding out a little about me! I am an artist living and working in Barrie, On, Canada. I draw in pen and ink in a whimsical style and take my drawings further as screen prints and textile works. I have a home studio for which I have been grateful throughout the pandemic and lockdowns. My favourite pre-pandemic pass-time was walking to a local cafe drinking tea and sketching. I also loved travelling to new places and exploring with my sketchbook. These days I sketch, print, listen to audiobooks, read, try to keep my home tidy and get outdoors as much as possible.

In my experience, the first step to being an artist is look at the world around you with curiosity. That and silencing your inner critic enough to get started. With those two skills, you notice all sorts of amazing things that inspire questions and ideas. With a little time and effort, those ideas can be turned into something beautiful to share with the world. In this way, I truly believe that everyone can be an artist. The difference, like in all things, comes down to the hours of practice and the amount of effort you’re willing to dedicate to it. The benefits of creative expression can be accessed by everyone without diminishing the value of people that dedicate their lives to being artists. Art has the ability to turn the everyday into the exceptional.

Since I haven’t been able to travel or gather in my community, a significant part of the curiosity that is normally aimed at the world has been redirected inward. I have been reading a lot and taking a good look at who I am, what I have to say, and how I want to say it. I don’t think that one needs to be malcontent to be an artist, but it is certainly emotionally tumultuous to share of yourself and be so vulnerable.

After months of looking within, I look forward to the day when I can return to teaching. I love sharing my passions for sketching, screen printing, block printing and letterpress.

Thank you for coming to visit!
